BASIC DRONE COURSE (Adults/14+)

Basic Drone Course (8 hours)

Looking to get into drone photography/videography? Mapping and surveying? Aerial inspection? These and many more careers are open to licensed drone pilots in Canada!

Your first step to getting into drone flying is the Basic Operations pilot certification from Transport Canada. In this one-day course, we will prepare participants ages 14+ to write the basic level exam. Once certified, you will be able to fly drones in the 250 g - 25 kg weight class (small Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) in low-risk areas, outside of controlled airspace and away from uninvolved persons.

The course is a "ground school" consisting of modules included in the Knowledge Requirements for Pilots of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, 3rd edition (TP 15263) published by Transport Canada, and is a blend of interactive lectures, class discussions, and take home study materials.

Students will learn the Basic level portions of:

  • Air law, air traffic rules and procedures
  • RPAS airframes, power plants, propulsion and systems
  • Human factors
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Flight operations
  • Theory of flight
  • Radiotelephony
